Experience
an entire persistent virtual environment - in outer space. Players may choose
to join a clan, join game sanctioned guilds or travel as a single player.
As well, each player begins the game with a personal space ship and will
be allowed to war enemy guilds, trade between space stations, form strategic
alliances, explore the universe or spend their days socializing with other
players. Most game interaction will take place in space vs. land and there
will be no NPCs in Destiny-Online. Three races will exist: male and female
Elorians, the Artanians consist of only females and S'zazaks are all males.
Characters are fully customizable and will gain ranks depending on their
race.
Destiny-Online, being developed by Mathias Muller, is
in Alpha stages and is projected to release early 2001.
Currently the development team is in the process of rewriting
some of Destiny-Online's server code and working on the
game's video trailer. Following are some frequently asked
questions:
What makes Destiny-Online different from other
online and offline games?
First of all, Destiny-Online is a mixture of two different
genres, namely massively multiplayer role playing games
and space combat simulations. There are also some elements
of trading in the game. Destiny-Online incorporates a
completely new game structure. We have programmed our
own engine in order to support all of the functions we
needed. Destiny-Online is designed to be remotely patchable.
Every time you launch Destiny-Online, updates and patches
will be downloaded to your computer and installed automatically.
That way you will not have to worry about downloading
patches. We will be constantly adding new features to
the game.
When will Destiny-Online be released to the public?
Destiny-Online is still being developed. In a few weeks
from now you will find a beta application on our web page.
How big is Destiny-Online's universe?
It is very big. It would take you some thousand years
to cross the entire universe in a fast ship. In fact:
Warp is a joke - it doesn't get you anywhere.
What if my friend is on the other side of the universe...
How will I get to her/him?
Right now the universe consists of three solar systems,
a pulsar which is used as a reference point for pilots
and some other stellar bodies. The universe itself is
much bigger though, so alliances can have their own space
stations outside of those solar systems. When you play
Destiny-Online for the first time, you can choose your
starting position from one of those solar systems.
How many players will be allowed to occupy the
universe?
There is no limit to how many people will be allowed in
our universe simultaneously. (There is no limit to the
"real" universe either.)
How will the world support an unlimited amount
of players?
New space stations and solar systems will be discovered
in order to account for the amount of people playing.
Will I have a hero? A main character that I create
and choose stats for? Will this character grow and gain
stats?
Every player will have one character that can be customized. You can choose
between three different races. And for every race there will be several
different bodies to choose from. Every character also has a rank.
Will I own ships or a ship?
Every character will own one spaceship. You will be
able to use it to fly to different space stations or
planets in order to communicate with other players.
How will I see? First person or 3rd person?
When you walk around with your character, you will see
the world in a 3rd person perspective. When you fly your
space ship, it will be first person.
Will my rank increase?
Depending on what civilization you choose, your rank will
increase either by fighting or by trading.
